The School of Divinity holds convocations in the fall and spring.
The opening convocation in the fall is highlighted by the Steelman Lecture. In 2011, the School of Divinity welcomed Dr. William Schweiker, Director of the Martin Marty Center and Edward L. Ryerson Distinguished Service Professor of Theological Ethics at the University of Chicago Divinity School. The address was titled, “Are Religious Convictions Bad for the Planet?”
At the 2012 spring convocation, noted Harvard University theologian Harvey G. Cox. Jr. spoke and joined in celebrating the establishment of the School of Divinity’s first endowed chair, the James and Marilyn Dunn Chair of Baptist Studies.
